 I requested the switch of 3 accounts. The first account was switched within 7 days and welcome materials rec'd so very satisfied with this switch. The next two accounts, I have been waiting for 4 weeks and have not received confirmation that anything has switched. I called customer service and was told that they showed one of the accounts had been submitted but could not confirm when the switch would take place. As pleased as I was with the first switch. I am equally displeased with the switch of the next two accounts since I have rec'd no confirmation that anything has been done. Telephone call to customer service was not very satisfactory so I am emailing today for status report.

 Recently bought a home and needed a gas plan. Constellation had competitive prices across the board. The only disappointing thing was that I signed up during a promotion they were having for a $150 Visa Card for signing up and it apparently never noted on my account, so I did not receive one.

I regret choosing constellation

 With my previous provider, I always paid on time with the exception of 3 times in 5 years when I made arrangements to pay at the end of the month due to unexpected bills. In Oct I I had car repair bills plus medical bills. I went to the constellation website and filled out a form requesting that I pay my bill 2 weeks later. I received a email back from constellation that it would be okay to do that. Being 73 and on Social Security I was very grateful that I could do that. In the past week before the extended due date I have received 2 phone calls from Constellation and a DISCONNECT NOTICE! I called the customer support number and asked them why they were harrassing me. They said that was their policy regardless if arrangements were made. I doubt that I will renew my contract with Constellation.

 Just within the past hour, I had a young man, literally beating on my door. Upon answering, he introduced himself. I immediately told him that I was not interested. (my time is precious, as I am sure his is too) He proceed to explain that he was not selling anything. Again, I told him and very politely that I was not interested, at all. He then insisted on arguing with me, why I should listen. NOW, my patience is growing thin. I asked him to leave. He stated that I was rude.
NOW, He's a stranger that showed up on my doorstep. I did NOT call and ask him to come to my house. I did not ask him to BEAT upon my front door. Short, He was not WELCOME. I had asked him to leave several times which he refused to do. All he wantred to do was argue.
I suggest that YOU Better, Train and educate your employees. They're behaviour is a direct reflection of CONSTELLATION ENERGY. He didn't leave until I closed the door.

 I changed from Scana to Constellation because they were recommended to me. After ordering the change online on their website, I was continuing to receive bills from Scana. Constellation did not communicate with me to let me know what the status of my account was, or whether they had cancelled Scana's service. Three months later, I called them before I paid my Scana bill, and they confirmed it was being processed. That seems like a long time to "process" and order, and with no communication, a bit concerning. I now have received my final bill from Scana and my first bill from Constellation. I hope their service is better than their lack of communication.

 My precious natural gas provider did not offer me a competitive plan at the end of my two year contract. I was their customer for many years and had always been on an automatic plan so I was quite surprised. Rather than just accept their high rate I did some price shopping. Constellation was offering a GREAT rate so I gave them a call. Their customer service was outstanding and Dwight Ching was quick and easy. Since switching to Constellation I have set up automatic payments with them, which was also quick and easy to do on their website. I would HIGHLY recommend Constellation.

 I just sign up with constellation @a month ago after my first bill which I paid. Unfortunately I was laid off and my next bill was approaching fast. I contacted customer service explain my situation and I have gain recent employment but need extension just until my first payday which would be almost 20 days from my original due date. The fact that they took the time understood my situation and no Hassel or jumping hoops just no problem and no disconnection. And to top that just pay what's due no late charges no fee for request or this is a onetime deal! I highly recommended this company. Thanks Constellation Energy

 This company can't seem to get it together. I had 3 accounts with multiple meters, this took them months to try and figure out why not all 4 meters were billed at the contracted rate. They blamed it on the meter reading date, then tried saying it was because I have a commercial account (not true). There were supervisors who did not bother to return my MULTIPLE phone calls. I suggest you stay away from this company. Many service persons barely speak English making this whole saga even worse. Worst part is, their error has cost me thousands because of a higher rate from my former company.

New customer, question about possible plan bait n switch

 First things first, both reps I spoke with during the hour I was on the phone were professional and very courteous. I believe Constellation did what they could to "fix" the issue for which I called (read on).

Today is the first day of my relationship with Constellation so I have no feedback other than the phone reps handled my issue to my satisfaction. I am happy to update my review if possible when I have some time with Constellation under my belt.

I signed up for a plan with decent rates, $0.00 monthly charges. The "thank you" email I received from Constellation showed the exact plan BUT with 3.49 monthly fee. I spent an hour on the phone with Constellation, 2 reps. First rep said the $3.49 is an Oncor fee (I get that, but the plan said $0.00). The second rep apologized for the confusion and credited my account $10 and took the URL I used to select them and promised to send to marketing folks.

I was told that every plan will have an Oncor charge, and I believe that. I would not have a problem with this if the Constellation plan I selected did not show $0.00.

The hour spent with Constellation on this weekday cost me more than the total I will pay them for the $3.49 charge over the couse of this plan term. But, in my experience, when one thing is wrong then other things are probably wrong - I have no reason to think that... yet.

Great rate but really hard to get ahold of customer service

 After signing up on-line I received an email saying "something went wrong, call us". After about 4 attempts to get through over several days I finally got a helpful person who basically said "that's strange, everything looks OK and the order is being filled". How will I know if it goes through? "A bill will be sent to your address." A month and a half later I got a bill (and two closing bills for the same final amount from the old company - but that's another story). I would have appreciated a welcome letter showing what I had signed up for and when it would all start.

I called 2 more times to check on the progress before the bill arrived and have no problem with the customer service people once connected. They were helpful and courteous (although it seemed they were struggling a bit to get information on their end - maybe their computer system has issues). BUT, each time it took multiple attempts and long waiting periods before I finally got through.

I've never before had this much trouble getting through to a gas company's customer service department.
I do hope the bills are accurate each month but I'm a bit nervous about it. We'll see how it goes.

During the process I was quite ready to give up on the good rate just for some closure on what was happening. I had a bet with a friend that it wouldn't go thru after all and would have to look for good rates all over again. I gladly lost that one because trying to get good information on the true cost of gas is like the fear I felt on the first day of advanced Trig. I dropped that.

Poor Customer Service

 The best the company can do for turn-on service is an 8 hour window. They can't provide a more narrow time frame so I have to take the whole day off to be at home. They won't give a notice before they arrive, and if I have to head to the store for anything and miss them then it'll be a whole 24 hours more to have a service rep arrive. Very bad customer service.

Billing canceled my auto payment which in turn canceled my account. Once I learned they were no longer accepting my billing because of a decision they made, I paid in my bill in full. But, 2 weeks after I pay, they send a rep out to turn off my gas. What company turns off service to a fully paid customer and won't turn it back on until the next day and only with an adult present at the house. I lose my gas service and a whole day of work just for a terrible company like Constellation. I am a very dissatisfied customer.

I am happy with the pricing of the service, but the price does not make up for the terrible service provided. Do not sign up with Constellation Gas or Atlanta Gas Light Service.

Constellation dropped the ball

 We selected Constellation for our gas carrier and someone there dropped the ball and never notified Georgia Gas and they shut our gas off and said that constellation had not notified them that we had them as a carrier. Our gas was off for 6 days before we could get everything straightened out and get our gas back on. We have gas hot water heaters, gas cooktop, gas dryer, fireplaces, etc. so it made things quite difficult for us. They didn't even offer to compensate us for the cost that we incurred for these 6 days.

If you can get through the sign-up experience & never have to deal with a rep again . . it may be worth the attractive price. Now that I have signed on. . trying to get auto bill pay is another exhausting experience & still incomplete. Another lose - lose. It takes excruciatingly long to get a code e-mailed for set-up & then more exasperating sticky wickets.

As a matter of fact, I received an e-mail on July 3 from Champion Energy, who had been my provider for the past few years, thanking me for renewing my contract with them. Someone dropped the ball and I don't know who, but it would appear my request for a new provider did not actually go through.

No communication Gas turned off, difficulties restoring NO HOT WATER for 5 Days

 Sign up in line everything said, couldn't talk to a real person so I finally did sign up on line.
And that's where it stopped.
Moved in May 1, had hot water until middle of June.
Came home to no hot water.
Called constellation energy, talked with someone who
Wouldn't help me, said call back tomorrow and talk with customer service.
I didn't want to wait until Friday, so Thursday evening I signed up
again on line!!
What no one said was that then you have to get an appointment with Atlanta Gas Light to schedule a turn on.

So just HOW WAS I SUPPOSED to know this??

When I called Friday, they told me someone from constellation energy should have called me,

So that means that twice I signed up and twice they didn't call me.

When I called customer service early Friday morning they tell me that the first
available appointment for turn with Atlanta Gas Light is Tuesday.
So I have to call all weekend without hot water!!! Arghhhh!!
I then call Atlanta Gas light and tell them my experience and ask if there is any way to get service sooner.
They tell me that Constellation energy would have to call and tell them it was a marketing error on their part and
they would move me up.

I call back to Constellation energy and tell them this and they tell me there is nothing they can do, but offered me
25 dollars off!!! I told them I would rather have HOT WATER!!!

I called back again and asked to speak to another supervisor, told him the entire story and he said he would look into everything....called me back at 2 oclock Friday afternoon and said they would move my gas turn on to Monday.....

I said well Monday is better than Tuesday!!


No communication....Bottom line....DON"T SIGN UP ON LINE!! and make sure you have a turn on date!!!

Loved StarTex, unsure about Constellation

 My service and rate(s) over the last 8 years have been great with StarTex. I used to refer friends\relatives and swear by StarTex. Since they merged with Constellation, I have lost my online login account info (Pay My Bill, etc) and for 6-months, I have gotten the run-around. I can login but no account info, so I have to call in to make a payment. I was promised a $25 credit for my troubles but prefer it to work. Never seen the $25 credit, either. Now I get my renewal rate and plans and they are double-digits (14.5 kWh for 12-mths), 12.9 for 24 or 36 mths). I see other attractive plans and shopping around.

 Been customer for years with auto pay due to many military deployments. I received a disconnect notice today. After waiting on hold for 48 minutes, Michael, whom was not very cler told me the company moved and all the auto pay customers were kicked out the system. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told they were not in the office. With all the fraud going on it is hard to believe a company of this size has moved and all auto pay customers are kicked out. I'm going to pay what I owe, I'm no longer going with auto pay and I'm looking or another provider. I guess long time customers don't matter. All I wanted was a clear legibly explanation and/ or speak with a supervisor. There was no apology for their mistake. I'm being taken for granted.

 Weve had Constellation for a year, and the website has never worked. At first, I could never log in with the forget password option just taking me in circles. They just changed to a new system, so my auto payment didnt process. I wasnt informed but discovered it half way through the month. I tried to make a one time payment online, but it wouldnt process. I had to call to do it and navigate through an unnecessarily long menu and figure which of 4 options was the correct customer #. Ive waited for them to get it together, but Im done. Im looking for a new company.

Just bad...

 On April 9th, I went on your website and requested to have service switched to you all on May 1st. The end of May, I go to set up my online account to check on my bill and realize I did not have an account number. I contact customer service and was told the service was never switched over and that she can start the service the next day. She then tells me I should receive info in the mail by the end of the month. That time comes and goes. I have yet to receive anything. I call customer service again and was told they started my service on the 26th of May and I should receive my paperwork by next week. It's too much confusion with this company. If I contact your company 22 days in advance, there's no reason why you all dropped the ball on setting up my initial May 1st service.

 Paid my August bill and then 10 days later got another August bill. I called Texas direct and was told that I didn't have account with them anymore and they wonder if I had even electricity anymore. CRAZY!! I been with Startex for more than two and a half years. Even got a new one year plan now. Had to call 3 times to get straightened up with a specialist . Was told my service was stopped by computer mistakes and it would take more than 2 weeks to correct. CRAZY!! Still waiting on my September bill. Hope I don't get some crazy amount. Fine if you don't leave

 Would not use again. Price to leave is $78 even when your contact is over. Got a great electricity rate so I chose this company over bigger names but when it was time to renew the offer they made was no longer competitive so I switched.

Turns out an "Oncor Electric Company Surcharges Approved" showed up on my last invoice, even though I was out of contract. The price to switch electric companies varies and in my opinion, anything over $20 is way too much, especially for something automated. Exact actual price to end service is not disclosed in terms of service, only a mention that a fee may be changed.

Also had some billing problems - signed up for auto-pay but didn't charge my card for some reason one month (even though they had the 4 months prior) then called to say my bill was overdue, and I had to go online and pay again. Later appologized via automated email.

I've never experienced such negligent service, it's as if they don't want customers. I must praise one agent Ally, she is trying to clean up the others' mess.  StarTex gives you 15 days to pay your bill and then delays crediting your payment for about 6 days in my experience. If you miss your 7 days to get the bill and get payment mailed to them, you get socked with a late charge. For the first time in 40 years, we were "late" on a payment even though we paid them within 2 weeks of receiving the bill. Beware this company.

Beware their "late fee scam"

 Give yourself a good 5-7 business days prior to the due date if you
bank on-line, since they refuse to set up an electronic relationship
with anyone but Wells Fargo. 3 times I've gone through this. If you
send your payment through another bank along with your other
monthly bills, leave lots of lead time, otherwise you'll get a nice pink
greeting from them in the mail along with a late fee charged to their
next bill. Then, when you call to see what happened and ensure that
your service is still on, they make you feel like you, as the customer,
have done something wrong by banking on-line, and not going to one
of their preferred payment systems (mail, call their payment number
over the phone, or wells fargo). Excuse me for not wanting to jack
around with 20 different service providers and desiring to handle and
manage my bill payments through my own bank on-line. As soon as
my current contract expires, I will be leaving this provider.

 I signed up for the startex "secure" one year plan at 10.8, guess what, 4 months later my bill has a rate of 10.94 and they didn't bother to send notice and refuse to honour my contract with them. They however intend for me to honour my end and will charge me for leaving early. Don't bother signing up for a "secure" rate, it isn't.

NEW CUSTOMER ONLY SCAM - PUC has been informed!

 I've used multiple provider for power in Texas over the last 5 years since deregulation kicked in. I've always gone to powertochoose to get the best deal when my previous contract expires. I did this recently and have learned that StarTex is now considering anyone who has used their service within the last 36 months to not be eligible for their best NEW CUSTOMER plans. In the past, the process was that if u were not an existing customer you were considered a NEW CUSTOMER.

Now StarTex has changed the rules to scam us. StarTex will publish a loss leader on powertochoose, but say you are not allowed to have that. They'll gladly sell you a plan that is more expensive so it's not that they think you are a risk. They just want to bait and switch users.

I've contacted my local congressman and he has had the PUC file a complaint about this bait and switch practice. Hopefully, this will be resolved to help the little guy.

Awful!!!

 I switched to StarTex after Texas Power began raising our rates into the $.22 range without notice that our plan had expired. StarTex was great at first, bills stayed low then found out they had been estimating for months. Long story short, ended up paying over $700 in one month ON TIME and they still disconnected us the day after I came home from the hospital after major surgery. It took hours and numerous threats to "supervisors" for them to admit I had payed my bills on time & they never should have disconnected our service in the first place. Even the Oncor employee that came to disconnect us said that he has heard lots of complaints on StarTex. They claim to have great customer service but it is among the worst I have ever seen right behind TexasPower. Swithched to Champion and hoping for a better experience.

Be Careful!

 Startex is a company that will be sufficient when everything is running fine. However, I had a payment sent a few days late (no late payments for previous 10 months), and they cancelled my power WITHOUT any notification. The power was shut off when my wife was home with our newborn baby. They threatened to keep the power off until I transferred payment to them, but then customer service completely fell apart when I broke off my contract. They keep calling for their final payment despite breaking the contractual obligations of warning us about service termination. Since that time they have added $300 more in fees. Be careful, this company is nice when you are paying on time, but miss one payment, and they will bring the house down on you!

 I went with Star Tex last year in November 2009 when I moved and my electric bill went way down. I've never had any problems with my bills being correct or have had no problems with their service. My plan ends in November and I plan on renewing for another year. When I checked on new rates, it was actually down from my previous rate by nearly 1 cent per kWh. It all adds up!

 I chose StarTex Power from several providers in the area. Their rates seem competitive and my service has been great. However, after my initial 6 month contract expired, StarTex never bothered to notify me or ask me to renew. They simply let my contract expire, started charging me a higher, non-contract rate. It's a shady practice and I feel like they've risked losing me as a customer for the $25 they swindled from me. As soon as I renewed, my rate dropped again but clearly I'll need to remember to renew early to avoid their expiration scam.

After several calls Startex agreed by phone to forgive the penalty ($ 29) as it was never billed. Now I have received a solicitation from a collection agency for the amount. This outfit's accounting is hopeless.

 Purchase from Startex ever again? _ _ _ _ No.
I ordered a variable rate plan that started at a wonderful rate- about $0.072 per kw. They do mention that they can raise the price at their own discretion at any time. What they never mention in the terms is that yes, they are about to raise your rate after only one month of the promotional rate and yes, you will be shocked at how cavalier they are about dinging you once you have been roped in.
The idea that anyone would agree to have their rates raised by 64% after only one month (from 7.2 cents to 11.8) is so ludicrous that it won't enter into your thinking as a reasonable prospect, unless someone tells you in plain language that it will happen and that this is apparently routine business to Startex- hence my review here. Don't take a promotional rate unless you have done an exhaustive study of how your account will be handled after the first short period of service. They leave all mention of that out except by inference in "legalese".

HORRIBLE customer service

 I've called several times asking to speak to a supervisor regarding my account, to no avail. I just want to speak with somebody with a brain in their head that cares about not losing a customer. In such a competitive environment, it seems they don't care at all about losing a customer, in spite of my willingness to pay the $350 cancellation fee. Get it through your skulls: I'm going elsewhere unless you work with me. Business 101. Clearly the CS reps don't care about their company or the future (or lack thereof) of their jobs.

Would like to add, much like many services today, it's easy as pie to sign up, but once they've got you, good luck dealing with their CS. Nowhere on their website makes it easy to change payment options, renew or otherwise.

 I've lived in Texas for almost three years now, and am still in shock over how low my electricity bill is. At first, I had inadvertently signed up for an adjustable rate, (Clueless because in Florida, you do NOT have a choice where power is concerned; on rate, or company.)and when I realized this, all it took was one phone call to get it fixed, at a great rate. No hassle, whatsoever.
I've never had any problem at all with the actual service either. The power has gone off a couple of times with weather, or whatever, but it was always right back on in no time.
A friend, whose house is smaller than mine, was paying more than three times as much as I do for power. She didn't believe me. I literally had to show her my bill. She's a StarTex Power customer too, now! (Smart meter my foot.)
I will absolutely refer people to StarTex Power whenever the opportunity presents itself.

GREAT PRICE BAD SERVICE

 I was originally attracted to this company by their low rates and I have had service with them for over 2 years. That is until today, due to the Christmas holidays I was unable to make my payment due on the 2nd of Jan. So I figured I would make it with my next paycheck on the 15th. However, by the time I paid my power had been cut off and now I'm facing massive connect and disconnect fees. When I spoke to a customer service manager "NORA" she told me those were their policies and quite frankly I got the feeling she could care less about my disconnected service. In an effort to get some kind of reaction from her I even went as far as to tell her that it may be time to change electric companies to which she replied "I'm sorry you feel that way." Now I can go up to 2 days without power. Not sure if they know, but its "WINTER" AND I HAVE 3 CHILDREN!! LESSON LEARNED: With this company you are nothing more than an account number. They are quick to disconnect and leave you dark!

Very good experience

 I used StarTex for several years because they had very competitive rates but as of late the rates have not been as good, so I switched to a different company. However, while I was with StarTex I was very happy with them. Switching away was no problem in fact they called me after I had switched and wanted to know why... when I told them, they said they would be able to offer me a private competitive rate to keep my business but I had already signed the contract. I'll call them again when this contract is up!

Watch out your bill!!!!!

 I've been with this company for over 3 years. I used to really happy with the rate they have to offer until this year. I did not receive any contract expire like I used to. The price went up and I did not know because they did not send me the bill in the mail any more. I called in to ask why I was not notified this year. The representative said it was sent out both in the mail and e-mail.. I checked many times from all the mails I had but not found. The new rate for renew changed from $4.99 for min 499 kWh to$9.45.. I told him I was offered from Reliant Energy with lower rate plus $150 credit, he said he cannot do anything about. Okay then.. time to say bye..

 I was on a rate plan until this July and was very happy. I did not enter another because I knew I would be buying a home and was worried about breaking a contract. Even though I have been going month to month my bill has been good. Unfortunately I am forced to shop for another company because the new rate plans are very high. I have not had any issues, I love that I can go online and pay, and my bills were decent. They no longer offer any rate plans that are priced decent. I did try to call customer service to see if I could get a lower rate as a loyal customer but no luck.....so I will shop and read reviews until I find another company

Hate to switch

 I was on a rate plan until this July and was very happy. I did not enter another because I knew I would be buying a home and was worried about breaking a contract. Reliable

 My contract with StarTex is about up and I have been searching for a cheaper provider. However, after reading the reviews for these companies I realize that the bargains come at a cost, customer service and reliability, both of which I have found to be excellent with StarTex. StarTex's prices are about average, but at least I know I won't have any battles with these folks!

Rates no longer competitive for long term loyal customers!

 Having been very happy with StarTex Power for the last 7 or so years, my annual contract is now up for renewal. Unfortunately their rates have soared and are no longer competitive. For a 12 month fixed contract they are offering 9.6c per kwh when competitors are offering 8.4c per kwh. Sorry StarTex. I've called a couple of times but was told this was your best offer. Hate to leave, but you leave me no choice. Maybe next year you'll offer me a better rate to come back???

Good at the beginning then prices went up

 I've had StarTexPower for a while now. Their promotional or beginning rates are good but since I moved to the new place, the price has gone up significanly (avg 13.69 cents, which is much higher than the initial price). Although I did not select the fixed option, increase from 5.2 cents to 13.69 cents is just too much. The first impression I got from this company was that they would care about such significant increase or maybe advise their customers of the high increase in price... but that's not the case.

Also, in this day and age, their bill payment system seems to be very outdated. Launches into a separate window, no email confirmation, etc.

Time to start looking for another provider...unfortunately.

 StarTex has a strange policy of turning off the online account management if you do not pay your bill in time. It seems to me that during these times, the online account management tool should be more helpful. Turning it off when you are needing to pay your bill seems contrary to good logic.

found that their customer service people are rude and of no help at all! I would
strongly discourage anyone from signing with this company. I have switched
and will never consider them in the future!

 Watch out when you are comparing rates. Star Tex currently advertises 8.5/kWh for their month to month plan, one of the lowest labeling it a "promotional rate". You have to assemble information from two separate places on their web site find out what "promotional" means. If you are a NEW customer, you only get this deceptive teaser rate for one month. After a new customer's first month, or if you are a Star Tex customer and your contract ends, the current month to month rate is really 12.6, which is about 25% higher and one of the highest month to month rates.

I chose StarTexPower, and have never looked back. The rate I pay is such a savings over my previous experience in another state. There have been no problems with this company. I like the way they do business, and will remain a loyal customer.

 I signed a contract with StarTex Power for X number of months at a decent rate after my initial commitment, StarTex almost doubled my rate in the middle of summer at our highest usage which in-turn more than doubled our bill. This went on for over two months and when I contacted StarTex costumer service they would not work with me and basically was rude on the phone. I have since switched companies for a much lower rate. I would not recommend this company and if you look around, rates are much lower else where.

Short but good experience

 I only went through the ordering and cancelling
process with Startex Power, but it was a
pleasant one. The online ordering system is
very fluid and doesn't feel cumbersome.
Unfortunately I needed to have power within 24
hours and was unaware that Starpower DOES offer
that service, and we signed up with another
company and had to cancel the service with
Starpower. The customer service person was
very friendly when I made this request and she
did explain to me about that 'priority service'
but understood my situation and cancelled the
service with no penalties or issues.

I recommend startex power simply based on the
fact of great customer service, their modern
online services, and their good rates. I'll be
switching to them once my term with this other
company expires.

Startex power has been a nightmare, and once again, I am having a terrible time with customer service trying to get them to correct the meter misread.

Very Pleased

 My last electric provider started going up on the rates and started charging a $5 monthly service fee for handling my account paperwork (sending me a bill in the mail). Also my last electric provider had a very large fee for breaking a contract they insisted I sign. Several friends switched to Startex and were very pleased. I switched to Startex and my electric bills were immediately cut in half compared to the same amount of electricty used with my previous electric provider. Startex does NOT charge me a monthly fee for handling my account paperwork. Startex does NOT charge a fee if I change me contract. Customer service at Startex also very friendly and helpful.

Consistent, as long as nothing changes

 I've been with them for almost 5 years. I made a mid-plan switch in May/Jun '09, when rates sank and I was tied into their 3 yr (roughly $.14/kWh rate) and got into another 3 year for (then) $.119/kWh. I had a bit of back and forth with them after the switch as their billing department didn't get the word that i was in a new plan. After 2 months, they got it straight. The only thing was I allowed them to continue billing the CC as I didn't want to discontinue and draw their ire. Shortly after I noticed that they never updated my new 3 yr plan 'end' date. After I called, they told me it was May/Jun of 2012. You can bet your last buck that I'll be on top of the change so that I'm not thrown into the non-plan summer rate. For others to note (but check, i'm not sure if it's law or the company's position) - but they told me I could submit my 'switch' request 15 days before the last period started). Be sure to check, don't take my word on this.

Overall-I'd definitely refer them!

I appreciate their NOT adding on trivial fees, such as "talking with rep, payment by phone, or payment online." It's good business, as usual, with Star Tex. I haven't found anything that would tempt me to change.

My StarTex Power

 I have been a StarTex Power customer for about 4 years at 2 home addresses, one being an apartment and one being a home and a business. When I first heard of StarTex and changed from "The Bigger and Well Known" company, I was impressed with StarTex's superior customer service, then shocked at the immediate drop in my electric bills. When I was in the process of moving into my home, which did not go as planned, I worked closely with the SAME customer service representative who again did not waiver in her performance and met all of my needs without a hitch. Since StarTex Power had been so awesome with service and pricing, when I opened a business, they again, provided the best customer service and quote. I have dealt with only one other electric company in my life and I have to say there is absolutely no comparison between these two companies. If you are with anyone other than StarTex Power, you should, at the very least, try them for one year. No hidden fees either, just ask.

 I just renewed after a year. I slipped, but they did warn me my plan was expiring, so it was my fault. I'm not a huge fan of their website, but their customer service is good.

I have had no problem with StarTex. I find them to be near the lowest price with 100% wind; the lowest of any company I've heard of.

Great Service and Pricing

 I moved down to S. Texas almost a year ago. Well closing on my home, the realtor had suggested Ambit as the provider of choice here. It took all of 2 months to realize just how bad Ambit's customer service and pricing was. I called them one afternoon, well sitting on hold for 45 minutes, I started doing research of other providers and found StarTex. I called StarTex directly after hanging up on Ambit (never did get a rep, even after 45 mins). I was talking to a StarTex rep in less then 5 mins. She took my new order and I was on my way in just a few minutes. I just got my renewal notice from StarTex and I'm happy to say I'll be staying with them. Great service and definitely the lowest pricing. Keep up the good work StarTex. Thanks.

Great Company!

 I have been with Startex since 2006.I have been pleasently surprised with their prompt,friendly service.Unlike prior experiences with my local cable and phone company.When you call with a question.They have never let me languish on hold.Or subject you to some horrid robot goonie.Although,I have noticed a little cheaper rate elsewhere.I will stick with Startex.I guess that I am "old school".And In these times of poor service and rude people.That means alot to me.

Good bye old friend!

 I've been with Star Tex for 5 years and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. On the rare occasion that I have called customer service I have found them to be courteous and knowledgeable. Alas, I now find myself with much trepidation, preparing to switch to a new provider with a better rate. I am sorry to say goodbye to Star Tex, but I have my budget to consider.

I would definitely recommend this company. They have good rates and seem to focus on customer service. Looked around at other companies but will be renewing with them.

.14 c and .17c month to month trap

 I have been with them since 2007. When in a contract there are not many issues. I have 2 accounts with them on auto debit. One time they debited one account, but not the other and sent me disconnection notice and fees demand. Notice, both accounts use the same CC. Took the fees off, but not off my record. Hmm. I have been off the contract for who knows how long. My month to month rate right now is 14 and 17 cents. Quite a high rate compare with 8 cents you can find somewhere else. I called several months ago and they offered like 12 cents which is way higher than others. My son got a much cheaper promotional rate at his apartment as a new customer. I guess they don't care about loyal customers! Very dissapointing. On the other hand I like they offer auto debit by CC and more organized than some other outfits around. I lost a lot of money being month to month for a couple of years and ready to move my business somewhere else.

Extremely satisfied

 I have been a StarTex customer for nearly 4 years, first at my apartment and
now my home. Their rates have always been some of the lowest on the market
with no hidden fees for credit card payments, auto debit, telephone payments,
etc. I have had several businesses I know and friends switch at my urging and
they have all been equally satisfied. My contract is up for renewal in June and I
fully expect to be renewing my contract for another 2 year term!

Crappy Information from Customer Service

 I was charged almost an additional 11 days of service, without my knowledge, for power I never used. In fact it was power the next tenant was using on a higher premium rate! The information I received from the company when setting up my power was false, leading to overcharging and a complete lack of carrying from the customer service personnel. The customer service representative argued that I had never even called in, essentially calling me a liar. I am extremely displeased with the service I received from StarTex.

Awesome!

 I just switched from Green Mountain Energy to StarTex. Their rates are MUCH better for green energy. The customer service was AWESOME, she was very helpful, spoke very clearly, and was articulate. She knew what she was talking about and to make it even better she was an AMERICAN! I didn't have to press one for English! They also have a referral program for referring friends where they give you AND your friend both $25 credit to your accounts. I am very satisfied.

Whatch out for Star Tex contract

 I have been with Star Tex a few years and let contract expire, they go straight to the highest rate they can give you in my case from .9 to .14 increasing my bill by more than a third. They do not care about retaining there customers, I would not suggest them to any one, they give you the excuse of sorry that what it is, when just about every other company out there has month to month for about .10 average. THATS bad business policy and that's how you loose customers. Thanks Ken

Great and no surprises!!!

 I switched to Startex 6 months ago, after being with another provider for almost 15 years. Should have changed YEARS ago. I did alot of research and decided to go with Startex due to price plans, reviews, ratings etc. I am very glad I did. I wanted to wait to review them until I had been with them several months. Things have gone great. Billing is spot on, NO surprises! Yay! Email reminders to pay bills etc. When I have contacted contact customer service, they are extremely helpful by phone but also they respond to emails VERY fast! Great company and I hope to be with them a long time! Just be sure to lock into a price and remember to renew when it expires. They take credit cards too if you pay your bills that way, I just wish they took American Express. That's my only complaint! Great company

Used to be awesome, now billing nightmare

 I've been a StarTex supporter since 2008. They were awesome - had the lowest rate, and offered great customer service.

However, they were purchased by another company and things have gone downhill with their billing. I was double billed once (which was actually Oncor's fault) but it took months to straighten out because of StarTex's inability to generate a bill in a timely manner. Even though I had no bill to even pay, I got collection notices and daily phone calls about not paying the erroneous bill.

Most recently, I moved, and even though I was assured my rate would stay the same since I stayed in the same service area, my rate went up 1.45 cents per kWh. I called and they generated a new bill, except kept the same rate. I called again, and they generated a new bill, but this time, they only gave me a credit for less than half of my usage. I had received a new meter, and they only credited what was on the new meter.

My contract is up in less than a month and will be finding a new provider. It's a shame they were bought out and the customer service has gone down hill so much. As they say "StarTex, where customer service is always free" - what they don't say is that it's not always right.

Superior customer service

 StarTex's customer service rep was excellent. She was knowledgeable and patient when I asked all of the questions that I needed to have answered in order to make the decision to switch electric providers. I had had the same provider for nine years and wanted to make sure that I was making the right decision. Everything was explained very clearly. So far a great experience!

Made the Switch

 We have used/tried with StarTex Power at our rental properties on and off in between tenants for the past two years. Had great experiences each time using their month-to-month plan, easy to sign on and off, with excellent customer services. Now that the contract at our own residence is up for renewal, we decided to look around. Not surprisingly, through this website, we saw that StarTex power has a very attractive competitive rate for the 100% renewable energy plan. So we just signed on. The whole application process only took about 2 minutes online. With the past experiences we had with StarTex Power, we know that it is going to be good. We are in!

Great!

 When we signed up, StarTex had very competitive rates. I like being able to pay online (and not pay a fee), and I also like not being required to pay by automatic draft. We have never had a problem with service. In fact, the only problem I have ever had was that my initial request for e-billing apparently didn't go through; luckily I caught it before the due date of our next bill so we didn't get a late fee. My sister also signed up for StarTex on my recommendation when she moved.
Now that we are looking at renewal, a few other companies appear to have better rates. However, StarTex's minimum usage requirements and base charges if you don't meet the minimum are much lower than everyone else's so I will be crunching some numbers before I make my decision. Overall we have been very happy with StarTex.

Never had any issues

 I have been with Startex for a couple years or more now, and have never had any problems with their service. Always helpful over the phone and have made it easy on me every time I've had to renew. And, from what I can tell, their rate is not always the lowest listed on "Power to Choose", but their cost is pretty straightforward...where as other companies appear to have quite a few different underlying fees. I try to find a reason to leave, but they keep pulling me back in ;-)

No complaints

 I had StarTex for a couple of years and never had an issue. Their rates were fair and the costs were straight forward and easy to understand. I even like how their bills are organized. I also like their online system for reviewing and paying your bill. I had to leave them since I moved to a place where I was not responsible for electricity. I have recently signed up with them again since I purchased a home a couple of months ago. Even though StarTex was not the cheapest option, I did not hesitate in signing up with them. I am happy with them and expect to be a long term customer!

 I have been with StarTex Power for 2 years and my contract is up for renewal. I have been happy with StarTex the whole 2 years until I saw that the new rates they're offering their existing customer are too high. Sad to say but I'm most likely to sign up with another provider.

Renewal distress

 I have been with Star Tex energy for two years., It is now time to renw and they went up on the rate extremely high. i am going to have to search for a new energy provider which i have found several on a 12 month plan that are $.03 cheaper per KWH. Their billing is good and easy and I had no problkem, justs the new rate schedule.

It was great while it lasted.

 Been with StarTex for 2 years and have been very satisfied. Billing is clear and I especially like that if I've forgotten to pay my bill by a certain date, StarTex will send me an email reminder a few days before the bill is due. However, the rates have gone up more than what I would have liked and I'm unfortunately forced to switch now. No other reason but the rate.

 The benefits of choice are clear when you work with StarTex Power. I didn't realize how good I had it until I moved away. But from start to finish, and at every point in between, StarTex went above and beyond to deliver competitive prices and excellent customer service. I was most impressed when a VP picked up to answer a billing question. You just don't find that service elsewhere. I miss having the option to choose a power company. But if I ever make it back to Texas, StarTex is the choice for me!

It's A Hassle To Switch

 I had a great experience with Star Tex but my contract is up for renewal. I have found a rate much lower to switch. It's a shame that I have to do this but I'm nolt going to pay between $25.00 to $30.00 a mopnth extra to stay.

You Had Me at Customer Service

 Been with StarTex Power for a couple years and at the end of current contract period. While there are some other companies with slightly cheaper rates, I was drawn back to renew my contract by the excellent customer service, no hidden fees, and no gimmicks (like paying $5.95 to call Customer Service . . . *cough*- Reliant-*cough*). I'm willing to pay a little more for a company that exhibits integrity in dealing with their customers.

Hate to leave...

 We have been with StarTex for about 1 year now. We really love the wonderful customer service and excellent service. We recently received our renewal notice and unfortunately we may have to switch companies. The rate we were quoted is not as good as the current offer and are not as competitive as other companies. We would really love to stay but have to do what is best for us. Thanks StarTex for making our transition to Texas a great experience!

StarTex stuck it to me!

 I had been with StarTex for several years and was happy with them until I received my bill yesterday. My variable rate excluding TDU surcharged increased 46%, from $.0879 to $.1286, from the June 2012 to July 2012 bill. I don't see how "market fluctuations" could account for such a huge increase. I checked their 12 month contract rate and StarTex is not offering competitive rates like they used to. Their current 12 month rate is $.108 kwh. For comparison I just signed a 12 month contract with Cirro for $.09 per kwh. Both quoted rates include fixed charges and are based on 1,000 kwh of usage. On the Power to Choose website about 70% of the competing 12 month plans are cheaper than StarTex. If your renewal is coming up with StarTex it is definitely time to shop.

No longer competitive

 I have been a Star Tex customer for at least two years. My contract is up for renewal, and at first I was going to renew with Star Tex; but I, too will have to switch providers. When I shop for rates, I am seeing prices as low as 8.8 cents per KWH from some companies, with most in the 9.2 to 9.5 cent range. I switched from Reliant because Star Tex had such good rates. I have never had any customer service issues with Star Tex, but I am frankly shocked to see their rates are now on the high end of the spectrum (10.7 per kwh). I can even get better rates now with Reliant!

I see several postings on that ratings site from customers who had the same experience as me. They loved the service but are leaving for better rates. I am not saying Star Tex has to be the lowest; but they are simply no longer competitive. It's a hassle to have to set up a new account with a new provider, but this price hike is too much to take.

Excellent Company hate to leave

 I have been with StarTex Power for few years and my contract is up for renewal. Sad to say goodbye as I have a cheaper written offer from another company.

So Sad to Change from Startex, but Renewal Rates just weren't competitive

 I have nothing but absolutely positive things to say about Startex. Their billing is easily read and accurate. Their signup prices were competitive and their minimum usage fee kicked in at a much lower usage than other companies. They were extremely helpful in their signup and the only time I spoke with customer service, which was to ask about renewal rates because my contract is ending, they were extremely polite and helpful. I was only on hold for maybe 2 minutes and the young lady who helped me was exceptionally polite and knowledgeable. The ONLY reason I'm having to leave is because they are offering me an increase in my current rate for the next 12 months and they are quite a bit higher than some of the new contract prices that other companies are offering right now. However, I had intended to stay with them if they would have maintained my current rates so if you are a new customer, you cannot go wrong with their service or prices!

Terrible Customer Service and Beware of Usage Fees

 When I renewed, they changed the minimum usage fee from 500 to 1,000 KwH per month without telling me on the phone. I got a minimum usage fee hit of $10. When I called to express concern, the customer service agent named Angie became belligerent and confrontational and fought me tooth and nail on removing the charge. I am still waiting on a call back from the supervisor. Stay away from these guys.

Big issues - Faithful Customer + Contract of Promises

 Been with StarTex for 2 years and have been very satisfied. Billing is clear and I especially like that if I've forgotten to pay my bill by a certain date, StarTex will send me an email reminder a few days before the bill is due. And had alway recommended @ more than 50 times in pass years.
However, until I saw that the new rates they're offering for existing customer @ June 17, 2012, so I had sign up early.
After all, I never had any problems with their service. Always helpful over the phone and online, they made it easy on me every time I've had to renew early.
But, After little over month later got an unexpected renewal contract mail, said that due to StarTex Power were purchased by another company and things have to change.
What ???!!!! Why me???
So, now the StarTex Power staff saying they cant find my contract and they want me to use their month-to-month plan rate 20 cent per KWH.*(use under 500 kWh )
That rate is too high !!!!!! Very dissapointing !!!! jacked my rates sky high!!!!
What happening about my last early renewal contract that was promises to me ???
That was @ June 17, 2012 and June 18, 2012. I did sign up online and got confirmed two time by email, again !!!!
On June 18, 2012 they had told me their computer system had little error, but they will honor my online renewal contract.
That why she had resend me another WEB ### CONFIRMED AND LOCK ME IN FOR another three months renewal
contract new rate @ 9.1 per kWh.
Do they want my business ??? Decision, decision, decision ???!!!!

Terrible Customer Service and Beware of Usage Fees

 I've been with StarTex for close to four years and have been happy. However, I recently renewed for six months with StarTex and wasn't told verbally the minimum usage fee is now 1,000 KwH instead of 500 and was hit with a $9.95 fee. hen I called to express my concern to customer service, Angie became belligerent and confrontational. Not only did the meter reading not go for the full month, it was only 29 days and I was barely under the usage. When I tried to explain this she said Oncor controls it and they weren't removing it. It was one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. I asked for a supervisor and am still waiting on a call back. Avoid these guys at all costs--they no longer value their customers from what I can tell. I would cancel them tomorrow but will get hit with a $150 cancellation fee.

 I received a visit from a TXU representative today advising that the people in my community are being overcharged by our electric provider. She explained that although my contract states one rate with Startex Power, Im really paying between 11 to 12 cents for energy. She offered me a 5.5 cents rate for 24 months and a visa gift card for $150.00 if I would switch to TXU and stated that if I was not satisfied with my first bill they will switch me back to Startex. I usually don't entertain sales reps but the 5.5 cents rate got my attention. After a few more questions I declined her offer due to a previous unpleasant experience with TXU. Since it is time to renew my contract I went to a website that compares rates for my area. I saw a couple of rates that seemed to be reasonable but not too familiar with the actual companies. I then went to Startex Powerss website and saw one plan that Id like to enroll in but its only a 9 month plan (wish it was for 24 months). I have been with them since September 2007 and have no complaints about my bills but I will continue to look since I have a little time left to renew. I wish they offered more competitive plans in my area.

Watch Out When Your Contract Expires!

 I have been a Star Tex Power customer for the past 2 and half years. Although their rates were a little higher than their competitors their billing and customer service was always great.
However, my 12 month fixed rate contract recently expired and my 8.750 rate went to 13.390 on my next billing cycle. Evidently they don't mind gouging their current customer base with an excessively higher rate and really don't mind retaining current customers! I felt taken advantage of (screwed to us the popular venacular). Obviously, I went with one of their competitors renewing with a 7.9 fixed rate. Good bye and good riddens Star Tex Power. I hope you figure out that treating your current customer base fairly and equitablely is what keeps you in business.

It's Time To Move On

 I've been a Star Tex customer for 3 years, and I would have to say had a good experience with them up until now. After the first year, they notified me that my contract was up for renewal. I requested them to renew at a certain rate, which would have been comparable to one of their competitors. They agreed, and all was well. I was in for a surprise when that contract expired. No notice, and just a surprise bill with the rate jacked up 3 cents KWH. I sent Star Tex an email asking if they would lock in a lower rate, letting them know that if they did I would refer a customer to them. I received a big N-O, and that was the end of that. I then requested a letter of credit from them, and haven't heard anything back. Needless to say, it's time to switch, because my monthly electricity bill is way too high, and they are simply no longer competitive.

Sold my Business-Still getting charged cancellation Fee?!!!

 In Dec. of 2011 I signed a 3 yr. contract expecting to be operating my business for another 10 yrs.
Unfortunetly, my parents in Vietnam (my homeland) have been sick and decided to sell my business
and move back home. The new owners and I have signed a Bill of Sale with no transferable debts,
contracts, liabilities, etc. They have other cleaners and have the same REP they have had for over 20 yrs. and will not transfer the contract with StarTex, Because of that I will have to pay thousands of
$7,000 in penalties. I am shocked, disheartened, because it will cost me to make this move and I cannot
afford that kind of cost. I asked the new owner to consider transferring,but his rate with his preferred
REP is .001 less. I cant blame them. Ive been told to file a complaint with PUC. Can anybody else help me? Should I hire and attorney? At this point the cost of an attorney may be less, if you can believe it.
I;ve told my story over and over and everyone tells me that it cannot be. But, the new owner does not have to enroll new move in with StarTex, not necessarily good for me. Please help me!!

Contract Renewal

 StarTex has always been a good company in the four years that I have been with them. When it came time to renew my contract, customer service tried to work with me on my rates and could only offer me a nine months contract ( I was hoping for six months) with a slightly higher rate then previously. I took it because I never had any problems with them and they have never had any hidden fees. The only thing that I have found disappointing is that within 4 days of my contract renewal, rates dropped below where I was previously. Especially, because when I originally contacted StarTex about possibly keeping my previous rates for renewal, it couldn't be done and now the rates are lower. I may consider switching companies in the future if it means lower rates and a better monthly contract.

I'm Very Pleased

 I switched to StarTex 6 months ago and have consistently had lower bills than with TXU. I had a rate of .13 per kW in the winter and .15 per kW in the summer with TXU and now I have a fixed rate of .09 per kW. My bills have been at least $29 less a month even when I used more kWs. I have saved $289 in 6 months compared to the same time last year with TXU and I used more kWs with StarTex. They did not charge me a switching fee or a deposit. I have not had any interuption of service. I would recommend them.

I got screwed by Startexpower

 I have been with StarTexPower since 07, and have not had a problem untill now when I got a huge electrical bill. I always have re-signed up with StarTexPower in December, and did again the first week of December 2011. I remember becauce I had my son over at the time and was trying to get him to switch to StarTexPower. I received in the mail a letter from StarTexPower to go to there website and punch in the code in the letter and I would received my new offer, which i did. The offer was 0.087 per kwh which seemed good to me, even though i saw better offers out there. I clicked the accept box and the next screen said that it was a done deal, and that is all I would need to do. I checked the electric bills for Jan and Feb and all was good, they were charging me 0.087 per kwh like they were supposed to do. Then I quit checking the bill untill I got the July bill where I saw they charged me 0.143 pre kwh, so I called and they said I did't signed up and they could charged me what ever they wanted. I said I did signed up, and her response was prove it, and I asked her how could I prove it, and she said that was my problem. I asked to talk to a superviser, and she said one would call me tommorow, of course nobody did call me, so I called back that evening, went thru it again, was denied again, and I asked to talk to a superviser again, was told to hold, which I did for 25 minutes, and finally got to talk to a superviser. She said there was nothing she could do nothing for me accept offer me 20 dollars back if I signed a new contract even though I been with them for five years. I declined and will instead switch to somebody else, and file a complaint with PUCT. I caned help but think that they lose your sign up sheets at low rates so they can stick it to you when your not looking. Anybody else with this problem, maybe there is a class action lawsuite there if this is a standard bussiness practice of theres.

 First let me say the responses from Startex seem like corporate doubletalk. After some people contacted CS 3 times with an issue Startex says to write them, Really? I have been a customer over seven years but if the Min usage charge changes to 9.99 for <1000 then you will lose me also.
It is very sad to see this former great company push away loyal customers and not give personal helpful replies here. -1

Beware of this company

 Beware of this company, I have been with them for five years, and I re-uped for 12 months each time. This last time they "lost" my sign up sheet, and when I noticed they were charging me .145 per klw vs .087 which is what they should have been charging me, they refused to do anything about it, except offer me twenty dollars off, if I would sign up again, no thanks, I moved on to Champion, who is by far the highest rated electrical co by JD Power, and this site as well. The best part is an even lower rate than this crooked co would offer me (.084) and don't bother with your phony offer to contact me from Startex which I see with ever complaint here, after three phone calls to even reach a supervisor, at Startex, I don't won't any more.

A Nightmare

 I have been a customer for several years and I have eight accounts. Recently, someone (probably a new college graduate without any business experience whatsoever) at StarTex decided to change a working and functional website and webpage. Consequently, now I am getting bills for bills that have been paid already and the webpage does not allow a review of the bill. I have sent more than a dozen complaints via emails and in response I got nothing but a computerized email that someone would contact me within 1 business day. Now is over two weeks and no one has contacted me. However,, instead I received threatening email that my services will be disconnected. This company WAS good at one time but now it went down to worse company. The customer service is worse that Best Buy. Time to move on and never to return. Goodbye StarTex.

Star Tex Power - Hidden Rate Increases

 Star Tex Power raised my rates without any notice; my bill went from my fixed rate of 11 cents to over 20 cents per kilowatt! I didn't even notice for two months; when we called to ask why they didn't contact us about our contract expiring, the customer service rep said "we got too many complaints for calling, so we quit doing that..." Up until my contract expired, I was fairly happy with Star Tex... now I would not recommend them based on my experience.

 I was checking your ratings in the internet and I saw your response to a customer whose rates went from .o9 to .12 in July, 2012. My contract expired in May and I did not realize it until yesterday when I noticed that my rate is .165 from .09 in May. I contacted your representative and they told me they cannot do anything for me because I was on month to month. I am switching to another company from next week. I had been a StarTex customer since 2007 and I am very, very disappointed with your company. Al almost 50% rate increase is shameful to say the least.
They told me they had sent me a notice of expiration but I did not receive it any. I have two accounts with you which will be switched over next. I called twice and I was told nobody could d anything for me and there was no supervisor who could talked to me. So much for great customer service.

 We've been with StarTex now for over 2 years and have been very happy with them. We originally signed up due to the high customer service ratings after web research. The rates are competitive (we always look for 12-month fixed rates), not the lowest, but then again, I don't mind paying a bit more for great service like this. It's time for us to renew again and after comparing the fixed 12 rates at our 2000KW/h usage level, StarTex wins again. Thanks StarTex, keep up the good work!

Expect 250% jump on your electricity rate when you forget to renew contract with this company

 Being a loyal customer with Startex for years, I recommend the company to my friends when they ask for suggestions, as I got the impression that their customer service was excellent.

Not when I got a $220+ bill which is twice as much as I have ever received. The reason? They changed the way to renew your policy when contract expires. Instead of variable (or flexible) rate they used to put your account on after contract expiration, they now have something called "transition" rate. Guess what? The rate is $20 cents/kwh. The only thing I'm glad about? My normal electricity bill is only about $100. I could have got a heart attack if I got a $400 bill.

Run away from the company! That's my suggestion now if anybody ask for opinion.

Great service for years

 Overall I have had great service from Startex since I switched from TXU in 2009. TXU failed to notify me my contract was up and switched me to a monthly rate. At first I thought the high bills was just the hot Texas summer, but then I discovered I had been paying exorbitant rates with them after years of loyalty. So I decided to switch, did plenty of research and at the time found Startex to not only have great rates, but one of the lowest monthly base prices (this is where many companies get you - if you use below a certain amount - Startex is below 499 kWH - many others are below 700-1000. I use less than 499 about 2 months out of the year, but less than 1000 seven months out of the year.) Anyway, they have always sent me a notice when my contract was about to expire and at renewal my rates have dropped even lower each year. Recently, my husband left and divorced me and I needed to switch service into my name. The first rep I talked to when I called wasn't quite as helpful as others, but told me I needed to wait until closer to the end of the contract. When I got within the time frame I called back and got a wonderfully helpful rep who helped me open my new account and didn't charge any deposit fees. I'm also impressed that when people do post complaints on here they always respond - most other companies don't.

I was actually being invited to join an MLM energy company, but after doing my research, decided not to do so and stay with Startex. (And yes, I am a REAL customer).

Rotten service

 We've had StarTex for a couple of years now. We pay our bill on time.

Went on vacation, and Mrs paid the bill before we left. Get home, no power. Apparently she sent $119 and the bill was for $190. 10 days late with a "past due balance" and they see fit to turn out our power. Lost everything in the fridge and freezer because of it.

Customer service was not very sympathetic, and treat Mrs like we're some sort of trouble case. Now we have "reconnect fees" on top of our bill and lost groceries.

Helpful customer service my ass. What kind of company shuts off power that quickly, and with such a trivial reason?

Don't honor online rate.

 I currently am signed up with StarTex and have been happy with them through my one year contract since moving into my home. Their renewal price offered was not competitive. After researching rates I went to renew through Powertochoose.org with StarTex because they had a competitive price advertised. After entering all mo information to sign up I got a pop up that said the rate was for new (move-in) customers only. It did not state this at powertocheeose.org. That's not good advertising. I'm switching to a different company for a better rate then they offered for my renewal. I wanted to stay with one company but they prevented that.

Run before you sign up!

 I have been a customer for 6 years with great service until now! Constellation needs to clean out their management team and start over with someone that knows the importance of customer service. You can not have customer service reps that can not correct problems. If you ask a billing question that needs an answer they have to contact billing. Oh and don't expect a call back. I have been working on a problem for two months and now my account is locked and they don't know how to in lock it so I can renew. Once I find out for sure my contract has indeed expired I am out of there.

The billing reps never talk to anyone. I feel bad for the service reps. They are on the firing line and it is not their fault. The management team does not allow them to make corrections as before. You never get to talk to anyone further up the chain of command. Get out while you can!

Excellent Customer Service

 I am writing to inform you that you have an EXCELLENT employee by the name of Farena Davis. She went to great lengths to make sure that I was taken care of. It is employees like her that make a company so great. I will definitely be recommending Star Tex Power to anyone I know that may need an electrical provider. It isn't often that I find myself pleased with the customer service that utility companies provide, simply because it seems no one cares. It was very obvious that Ms. Davis cared about my needs and made sure to help me in any way that she could. She followed up with me and even sent me information I needed in a text because I couldn't write it down at the time. I am really impressed by the lengths she went to make sure my needs were met. Her service was outstanding. I wish my other utility companies had employees like her. I work in customer service myself and try my best to treat my customers like I would like to be treated. Farena definitely sets a standard and an example that I will follow in my own job. Needless to say. I hope that she is recognized for the excellence she provides!!

I was told when I renewed my contract that there will b no monthly charge even if I didn't use the minimum monthly KW, but they did charge me $9.95 & after I requested to investigate what the rep told me on the ph, they said that I agreed to that, but when I told them to let me listen to the recorded conversation, they said no! They also didn't want to give me the address to their legal dept so I can send them a letter from my Atty.
DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS CO!!!

Loyal Customer for Many Years - Not Anymore

 Since the buyout from Constellation Energy - this company definitely no longer understands customer service. They are hard to reach and the folks I have talked to are rude now in customer service. I have been a loyal customer for many, many years and never shopped the prices until now. I will definitely not stay with StarTex when my contract is up in the next few days. I am making a switch!

Horrible Customer Service

 Have a commercial building in McAllen Texas. I had ordered STARTEX to stop service due to a new tenant coming into the building. Low and behold STARTEX failed to stop service and tenant ran up a bill under my name. Then had a bill collector hounding me for the bill and was extremely rude and offensive. Having to clear up a problem created by STARTEX that should have been avoided by them. Definitely would not recommend and will never consider them due to bad service, ignoring my requests, and extremely rude unprofessional behavior.

Broken Promises & Horrible CS from a former great company

 I have been with Startex for over 3 years and had nothing but praise until Constellation took over. When renewing the new offered rates charged 9.95 for low use. I called to cancel and was offered to stay at same rate I previously had. When my contract was not updated and my bill was late I spent more then 20 hours on phone trying to get my bill and to get Startex to honor agreed on bill. It is now 7 months later and my bills are still messed up and I cannot get a straight answer from Customer Service or a promised call back from a supervisor. Something is seriously wrong with this company as they don't have the ability to bill correctly and customer service does not have the ability to resolve or correct any issue. In the past 7 months my bills have twice skipped months and I still don't believe they are charging me the correct rate. The really sad part is a call to this companies customer service will not resolve any issue.
